This effortlessly cool wedding at Meridian House in Washington DC brought together romantic styling, historic architecture, and just the right amount of retro edge. Designed for a bride with a strong creative vision, and a deep love of meaningful details, this wedding felt both timeless and personal.

Long considered one of the most iconic historic wedding venues in Washington DC, Meridian House offers a sense of intimacy and European grandeur in the heart of the city. With its formal gardens, neoclassical parlors, and dramatic interior light, it invites a more curated, styled approach—and that’s exactly what this wedding delivered.

A design-forward wedding in a historic Washington DC venue

The bride came to us with a clear aesthetic: she wanted the wedding to feel romantic and timeless, but with a sense of personal style – something that felt cool without being trendy. She had ideas and vision, but needed help bringing it all together.

Layers of soft tones, warm neutrals, and subtle greens softened the structure of the venue. Florals felt refined but organic. The tablescape leaned into editorial composition, velvet, brass, and candlelight, arranged intentionally without being overly styled.

Fashion-forward moments

The bride leaned all the way into fashion for her wedding day, with THREE distinct looks that moved effortlessly from ceremony to celebration. Her ceremony gown featured satin sleeves and a sculptural silhouette that felt both timeless and editorial. It struck that perfect balance of a bit sexy, and completely sophisticated.

Each outfit change told a different part of the story, with evening and after-party looks that brought in more movement, texture, and a hint of drama. Her outfit changes let everyone know she was here to party. Styled intentionally against the venue’s classic interiors, the fashion felt like part of the design.  She was the moment.

Designing a layered, intentional wedding at Meridian House

This wedding is a reminder that elegance doesn’t have to be predictable. That a historic venue doesn’t require a traditional approach. That style can be both bold and quiet, layered and intentional. As a Washington DC wedding planner specializing in full-service, design-led events, we love when couples bring a strong vision—and trust us to elevate it with intention.
