Venue Tour: The Greenbriar

October 11, 2017

Back to Blog

I have always wanted to visit the Greenbriar Resort.  When I booked a wedding out at Smith Mountain Lake around the same time as my wedding anniversary, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity.  My husband came out as my assistant (he has worked weddings before and does a great job) and we made a mini vacay out of it.

The Greenbriar did not disappoint.  The resort is HUGE. There are 710 rooms, including 33 suites and 96 guest and estate homes. The Greenbrier has 10 lobbies, 40+ meeting rooms and a complete conference center facility. There is so much to do. They have championship golf, fine dining, more than 55 activities, designer boutiques, a world-renowned mineral spa and a 103,000 square foot gaming and entertainment venue.  They have bowling, pools, playgrounds, anything a person or a family would need for a break from reality. History buffs can tour the bunkers below and learn about the history and conspiracy theories surround that time. I even rode a horse while we were out here.  I am terrified of horses.  I was white knuckled the whole time.  The next time we venture out to The Greenbriar, I think I will spend my time at the Spa.

The Greenbrier is a National Historic Landmark and world-class resort that has been welcoming guests from around the world since 1778.  People come here for vacations, for conferences, and my most favorite thing, weddings.

I was talking to the venue coordinators while I was there and they said that most of their brides have come here their entire life.  They came here as little girls and have always dreamed about having their wedding here. How nostalgic and perfect that you can have all of your favorite memories tied to such a grand place. The bride’s parents have gotten married here, and they are now getting married here. This is a place of long lines of tradition that goes on for generations.  The owner of the resort recently built a chapel on the grounds for his own daughters wedding.  The chapel is adorable and has the iconic Greenbriar motif.

The Greenbriar does have in-house vendors that you are encouraged to use.  They will provide everything for you including transportation.  Your guests can stay at the resort, rent a cabin, or stay in town at a nearby hotel.  This is an experience that your guests would love to have.  From the fabulous Dorothy Draper decor, to the southern hospitality, and all of the amenities, this is a venue I would definitely love to plan a wedding at.

To learn more about the venue check it out here.

As always, I would love to chat.
