Jacob’s video game-inspired Bar Mitzvah was so much fun to create. Jacob’s love for video games goes beyond playing the games but is about the cool technology and the culture that accompany the gaming community.
The Bar Mitzvah Venue
The Bolling Haxall House is a historic venue in Richmond, Virginia. The venue has hosted many events, including weddings, Cotillion, fundraisers, and bar and bat mitzvahs. Once the home of leading industrialist Bolling Walker Haxall, and now the headquarters of The Woman’s Club. This venue has a timeless and elegant feel.
The Reception | The Bolling Haxall House
Jacob wanted the space to feel techy, edgy, and modern. The colors for the reception were blue, red, black, and silver, which pair perfectly with the interactive video game themes. We added vertical light rods on stage behind the DJ to create the look of a computer server. The LED centerpieces were custom-made to match his favorite musical instruments, a guitar and saxophone. Attached to the “teen” table, we had 4ft custom marquis letters made that spelled out his name. For an added touch and to incorporate his favorite game, Slipgate, we digitized the patterns used in the game portals to create the table wrap, envelope liner, and photo backdrop. We had glow sticks for all the guests, who used them all night on the dance floor.
The DJ organized many games, gave out prizes, and hyped up the guests during the reception. Since Jacob wanted a gaming theme for his party, we also hired a VR booth for the kids to play games. A VR booth is a 360˚ virtual reality involving a headset that tracks your head motion to allow you to experience a 360˚ virtual space. The VR booth was such a huge hit. The kids alternated from dancing on the dance floor, taking photos in the photo booth, and playing games in the VR booth.
The guests socialized, laughed, and danced all night. They enjoyed the food, ice cream from Gelati Celesti, playing games, and all of the creative decor. We had so much fun planning and designing this party. Video Games, music, and techy things can still be ‘cool’ if positioned the right way.
As always, I’d love to chat about your upcoming Bar Mitzvah!
