If you are looking for a historic wedding venue with a Tuscan charm the Barboursville Vineyards may be the place for you.
The venue is located on a 900-acre plantation with mountain views. You can have your ceremony either right in front of the Palladiam ruins of the Jefferson-designed mansion, or down a ways with the ruins in the back ground. Either way it’s a unique and interesting ceremony backdrop.
After your ceremony your guests can make their way back to the winery and enjoy the reception. The winery is Tuscan inspired, so you can expect to see lots of Italian influence, exposed wooden beams, and vintage chandeliers. The room has floor to ceiling windows which overlook the vineyard. There is an outdoor terrace for cocktail hour or a late night chat in the fresh air.
The Vineyard will provide your reception with award wining wines, including the Octagon wine. The owners of the venue come from a long line of Italian wine connoisseurs. We did a tasting while we were out there. The wine is really good. I have not had the food, however I have heard nothing but great things about their chef.
If you decide to stay on site for the evening there are several rooms available at the 1804 Inn or the historic cottages on site. You and your guests will be able to enjoy the property and walking trails a bit longer and no one will have to worry about heading back into town for a hotel.
