Venue Tour: Altria Theatre

The recently renovated Altria Theater Ballroom is one of the largest venues in Richmond Va.  It has hosted numerous gala’s, after parties for the concerts at the Richmond Coliseum, and they are booking weddings.  They have the capacity for approximately 1,000 standing and a seated capacity for about 900.  If you wanted a dance floor that number will go down to about 700, which is still a considerable guest count.  Recent renovations included the installation of a new, state-of-the-art kitchen, power outlets, proper wattage capabilities for lighting, bands and DJ’s.  There doesn’t seem to be anything they didn’t think of with the exception of cell service.  It’s a little spotty down in the ballroom, however that will only encourage your guests to honor your “Unplugged Ceremony” requests.

If you chose to have your ceremony and reception in the ballroom, the Altria can make this happen.  They have thick sound muffling draping that can define your ceremony space while your reception tables are set and patiently waiting for the flip on the other side.  There is a stage for your ceremony that can also double as the space for your sweetheart table.  The Altria has an amazing staff that has flipped a room faster than any team I have ever seen.

As you room is being flipped your guests can make their way to the mezzanine level for cocktail hour. The mezzanine has two full bars and some fabulous lounge areas.  Your guests can mingle, take in the views of Monroe Park, and lounge on the jewel tone sofas.

If the ballroom isn’t your style you can always have your wedding and your dinner, on the stage.  The theatre has recently reupholstered seating, a large stage, and a gorgeous ceiling.  The theatre was opened in 1927 as an entertainment venue. Despite all the modern renovations The Altria maintains its historic charm. With it’s historic tile work, floors, and fountain in the lobby you definitely get the same feeling as if you were visiting the venue when it first opened in the roaring 20s.

I know that sourcing a caterer is one of the most daunting parts of planning a wedding.  It’s where most of your money is spent and one of the main aspects your guests will remember at the end of the night.  The head chef at SAVOR is phenomenal and such a character.  He has a great understanding of how to run kitchen and how to make amazing food.  They do not allow outside catering, unless you are sourcing from an Indian caterer.  If you require certain menu items you can always have the conversation.  They want your event to perfect and they will work with you on all things.
