Choosing your wedding party is not an easy feat. There are so many things to think about. Do you ask your family members, your best friends, your college roommates, your childhood bff? Ugh, it’s impossible to choose. The good news is that there are trends moving toward having smaller wedding parties, or not even having one at all.
When you are selecting your wedding party there are a few things you should consider:
They are your support staff, your go tos, and the ones you will need to help you get some things done. If you have a sneaking suspicion that one of your friends may end up ghost on your wedding day, may cause a bunch of drama, or may not still be a friend as the time gets closer, you don’t have to ask them. It’s ok.
You can mix and match your wedding party. Bridesmaids don’t have to be females and groomsmen don’t have to be males. If you have a best guy friend have him stand on your side.
Just because you were a bridesmaid in someones wedding doesn’t mean they need to be a bridesmaid in yours.
Think about your expectations and their abilities. Do you have a best friend who is in between jobs or one that is working overtime hours and doesn’t have the time to dedicate to helping with your wedding? Consider what you will be asking from them and if they can deliver.
The more people in your wedding party, the more expensive it will be. Each female will need a bouquet each male will need a boutonniere. You should consider buying each attendant a nice gift, hosting a brunch or a lunch, and if you are requiring that the bridesmaids have their hair and make up done that should be something you cover as well.
They don’t have to all match. Not every dress has to be the same, not every hair style has to be the same, and not everyone needs the same accessories. I will recommend that the dresses coordinate or are in the same shade, and that the shoes are the same colors. You don’t want one person is black shoes, three in brown and one in metallic.
Weddings should be fun, and you should be surrounded by those who will allow you to have the best day possible. Choose Wisely.
