Venue Tour: The Science Museum of Virginia

Back to Blog

The former train station, now The Science Museum of Virginia, has several event spaces that serve multiple purposes.  From corporate events, to galas, to weddings, there are plenty of options to host your event.

The Rotunda is the most recognized event space at The Science Museum.  It is a five-story dome that has interesting architecture and is a large open space. This space can seat up to 250 guests.

If you are looking to host a larger event, the Thalhimer Pavilion can be used to host galas, company parties, weddings, and proms.  The historic train tracks are above you and the space is tented.  This space can seat up to 500 guests. Your guests can use the side patio area for cocktail hour or for an indoor outdoor experience.

The newest event space at the museum is the Dewey Gottwald Center.  This space has a modern aesthetic with black walls, a sound proof ceiling, and a steel and glass structure. This space can seat up to 500 guests.

If you prefer an outdoor space you can head out to the Garner Pavilion.  This space has the historic train canopies overhead and green grass below. This space can seat up to 1,000 guests.

The Science museum is a great venue for large scale events.  The only thing to be aware of is that this is a public venue.  That means you won’t be able to start your event until 5p and you will need to be out by 11p.  This doesn’t leave very much time for your vendors to set up so make sure you either have a full design team, or a smaller amount of things to set up.
